Our Time to Shine - Annual Meeting and Innovation & Star AwardsYou know at your agency that your clinical staff, aides, and managers are great. Isn’t it time to let the rest of the health care industry know that? The Home Care Alliance is looking for nominations for our annual Innovation and Star Awards.

Awards will be presented on June 14th at a brunch and reception to be held at the Granite Links Golf Course in Quincy. Marie Pazinski, MD — neurologist and noted author of Beautiful Brain, Beautiful You — will emcee the awards. And there is  plenty of free onsite free parking!

Another Successful Blueprint for OASIS Training & Exam

The Home Care Alliance of MA would like to thank the over 85 participants who took to the 2-day intensive Blueprint for OASIS training as well as a special congratulations to the 54 participants that took the OASIS COS-C certification exam last week on Wednesday, March 16th in Milford, MA.

Although OASIS is a high demand training, especially with the benefits to Value Based Purchasing, there is still a large cost associated with putting the training on. HCA would like to hold another training in the fall for members, around roughly November, however, we need to know if members would be interested in attending. With that, whether you are interested or not, the association would greatly appreciate it if you could take this very quick survey with your thoughts.

Leadership Summit: Mission Possible Theme Song Released

For those of you that attended the 2016 Northeast Home Health Leadership Summit, you know that the closing keynote, Angus Clark with Song Division, worked with everyone to create a theme song for the conference.

Angus used this engaging session to utilize the songwriting process to demonstrate the qualities your people need to cultivate collectively to innovate, succeed and create as a cohesive unit. The practical takeaways that could be immediately applied in the workplace included:

  • A refresher on active listening
  • The experience of a safe, fun environment where people can express ideas to solve workplace challenges without fear of criticism
  • A ‘yes’ mentality where the focus is on the solution, not the problem
  • And Collectively achieving something together that the group previously didn’t think was possible (writing an original song), improving group cohesiveness and productivity back in the workplace.

2016 NEHCC Registration Now Open!

It’s that time of the year again when the New England Home Care & Hospice Conference and Trade Show comes around. Representing more than 375 agencies, the six home care associations of New England are pleased to announce that the 2016 NEHCC will return to Foxwoods Resort & Casino for its 6th annual conference, this time at the the Grand Pequot Tower from May 16-18, 2016.

Project Update: Webinar on Home Health IT Adoption and Utilization Analysis

On Thursday, December 3, 12:00 – 1:00 PM, the Home Care Alliance will offer a one-hour virtual overview of the current home health IT utilization trends across the Commonwealth.

Throughout the summer and fall, a team from the Massachusetts eHealth Collaborative  (MAeHC) developed and distributed a statewide home health HIT adoption survey aimed at identifying and remediating gaps. The survey process, along with an action plan to increase HIT adoption among home health providers, will be presented on this webinar.

Home health, along with other behavioral health and long term care providers did not receive incentives under the Health Information Technology or Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) Act and American Recovery & Reinvestment Act (ARRA) which hospitals and eligible professionals have used to offset costs related to adoption health IT. The anticipation that new care and payment models, such as Accountable Care Organizations (ACOs), might support the cost of health IT adoption among “non-incentivized providers,” has been realized only in the most limited of fashions.

While the industry continues to lobby for IT funding for long term care in future phases of “meaningful use,”   The Alliance, in partnership with MAeHC and the Massachusetts eHealth Institute (MeHI), has taken steps to better position home health agencies to demonstrate their value proposition as connected partners.

HCA to Launch Education Offering: Building a Behavioral Health Program

In response to community need and member interest, HCA will launch in January 2016 a twelve-month training program for home health agencies interested in creating and sustaining a program to provide behavioral health services under the Medicare home health benefit. Based on work originally piloted at the VNS of New York, this project will provide learning and tools to put in place both the clinical competencies and administrative infrastructure. The project will feature onsite clinical training for at least five nurses per participant agency as well as diagnosis specific care guide and implementation manuals.

The objectives of this training are as follows:
• Learn how to provide Behavioral Health Home Care and get staff trained.
• Allow your agency to provide Behavioral Health Home Care during the year of the project
training.
• Improve patients care for clients with mental health conditions
• Improve overall patient outcomes, including re-hospitalization, ER utilization and compliance.
• Enhance your position in your service area, provide a new Niche of care and grow revenue.
